Project Overview: Jesus was an Ultra started off as a project to extend my dissertation into a graphic publication. The thesis was on the paralell between football tribalism and religion and aimed to educate and invite football fans (and those interested in culture) to explore the rich, often overlooked, overlap.
I initially created a book and showcased this within an exhibition. I also divised a
(hypothetical)
social app which invites the ‘brands’ target audience to discuss all things football and religion on the app. Project Skills:Book Binding Indesign

This was the exhibition I made for my degree show to showcase part of the work I did.
Project Description
“Jesus was an Ultra. The brief of this project was to extend my dissertation thesis into a graphic book. The thesis looked into the overlap between hooliganism & religion, showcasing examples of this parallel aiming to educate an audience, who either love football, study culture or just want to understand the deeper forces behind the game.
I took the approach of using the sacredness of the bible for the casing and distorting that sacredness, with the chaotic design of the hooligan. I split the publication into the old testament (my dissertation) & the new testament (which is more graphic & poetic).”
The Book The book worked as the inital project delivery, fully exhausting the research from my dissertation into design. However, as you’ll see when you keep scrolling, I pushed this project even further.
I created a brand out of the book and also designed an app for the project as a way of not only marketing the book and touchpoints created for it, but to also allow a (hypothetical) way of consumers of this brand/project to explore this overlap of football and religion for free and communally too.
